Difficult questions

Questions to ask

  1. Aren’t all major religions equally valid and basically teach the same thing?
  2. Each religion sees part of spiritual truth, but can anyone see the whole truth?
  3. Isn’t Religious belief  too culturally and historically conditioned to be “truth” ?
  4. Isn’t it arrogant to insist your religion is right and to convert others to it?

So should we keep religion private? Is it possible?

What is unique about Christianity from our text?

The origin of Jesus salvation – God came in human flesh

The purpose of Jesus salvation – God wants to redeem and restore this material world (not escape)

The method of Jesus salvation – The method of Grace.

Jesus was NOT just a teacher but God’s DEMONSTRATION of His true love!

So what? 1 John 4: 1-10 Whilst religion says you are saved by your performance, Grace says… You are saved not because you are wise or kind, but because you are a sinner in need of God’s love.

Resurrection focused – the purpose of salvation is a new heaven and a new earth. Christianity works with God for a new world.

It states Jesus is God. Isn’t that arrogant? Doesn’t that lead to self righteousness? That’s not how Christianity grew in the early days. It led to inclusive peace loving behaviour because Jesus isn’t just a good person but a visible expression of God.
