Baptist churches have no external source of income (for example, from a denomination). It is God who provides for our needs, from our giving mainly. Broadmead has a history of generous and sacrificial giving. Our giving is a measure of our love and commitment to Jesus. When we give, we are not just giving to church, we are giving to God -and God has graciously promised to bless us richly when we do this.

How can I give?

On Sundays there is an opportunity to give in our worship services by cash or cheque. If you want to give regularly on a Sunday we can supply you with dated envelopes to help you with this. Many people choose to give through bank transfer or standing order and the bank details can be obtained from the Church Treasurer.

If you are a UK tax payer, the church can reclaim the tax that you have already paid on your gifts. This is an effective way to increase your giving and means that for every £1 you give, the church receives £1.25p. Regular, occasional and one-off giving can all be covered by the gift aid scheme. The church treasurer can provide you with a gift aid form or print the one out in the link below.

How much should I give?

Many Christians believe the Bible teaches that we should give 10% of our income to God: this is called tithing. Other Christians do not feel that this applies today. It is clear from the New Testament that the early Christians viewed our giving as a natural response to God, and that some gave more than this, some gave less. What you decide to give is between you and God. We do not set rules about this at Broadmead. Whatever you decide to give will be received gratefully and used for the advancement of the Christian faith through worship, prayer, evangelism, pastoral care and social action in this area and beyond.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…’test me in this’, says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be enough room for it. Malachi 3:10

A generous person will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed Proverbs 11:25
